F1 designer Adrian Newey to complete highly anticipated RB17 hypercar before leaving Red Bull

Adrian Newey will leave Red Bull after nearly two decades and an impressive track record – pun intended.

Newey has designed the F1-winning Red Bull race cars that won 13 titles in 19 years, but he also designed a couple of road cars.

That includes a new hypercar that’s about to come out.

Adrian Newey is going to leave Red Bull in 2025 and after weeks of rumors, the 65-year-old design legend himself made it official with an announcement.

While possibly not as shocking as Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari, the news caught many by surprise, and fueled speculation about Newey’s relationship with Christian Horner, as it appears the whole saga started with the allegations leveled against Horner.

That’s certainly a question a lot of people will be asking, but there’s another, more pressing question – what’s going to happen with the promised Red Bull RB17?

Newey has designed the F1 cars that won seven drivers’ and six constructors’ championships, but also helped with the design of the Aston Martin Valhalla and Valkyrie, both co-engineered in partnership with Red Bull.

The long-awaited Red Bull RB17 is perhaps even more significant, in a way, because it is the first hypercar designed to wear nothing but the Red Bull badge.

We don’t know what it looks like yet, the only picture available (below) is a teaser image that doesn’t give much away, but we do know it’ll be a track-only hypercar.

Red Bull said the RB17 will utilize a hybrid powertrain with over 1,100 horsepower, and it’ll be capable of matching F1 track times.

Newey will leave in 2025, and so we can reasonably expect the car to be ready by 2026 at the latest.
