Oil was in low supply in post-war Japan, but an abundance of creativity meant that Nissan engineers accepted the challenge.

Nissan rolled out their first EV, the Tama Electric Vehicle, in 1947.

The brand’s first whiz into EVs had a top speed of 21 mph (35.2 km/h) and a range of 60 miles (96.3 km/h), which was groundbreaking for the time.

But after decades of innovation in concepts and productions, including the first mass produced electric vehicle, the Nissan LEAF, the Nissan ARIYA has arrived.

And it’s not like any all-electric vehicle you’ve seen before.

The Nissan ARIYA Platinum+ e-4ORCE’s dual motors deliver 389 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of almost instant torque.

The result is a 0-100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds with a rolling start and the feel of a sports car behind the wheel.

However, that thrill of the drive is combined with the all-weather capability of an SUV, with e-4ORCE technology delivering all-weather confidence.

Think heightened control, comfort and confidence.

What’s more, drive modes are also available at the touch of a button.

The Nissan ARIYA Sport Mode sharpens the accelerator response and transmission tuning for an exhilarating ride.

Meanwhile, the customizable Eco Mode promises enhanced comfort and excellent efficiency.

Last, but not least, for more controlled and precise handling, Snow Mode modifies accelerator mapping and transmission tuning for less wheel spin and more grip when it matters.

The Japanese and futurism-inspired car is a triple treat: modern, sleek and timeless.

At a glance, its two-tone metallic and pearl colors really pop against a front illuminated emblem and subtle Japanese kumiko-pattern detailing.

Sit behind the wheel and the visually calming kumiko detailing continues throughout the spacious interior.

These traditional touches blend seamlessly with subtle and centering technology.

Diffuse, contextual lighting welcomes you as you take your seat behind the wheel.

Close the door and sound-proofing material, including laminated windows, blocks out the noise of the outside world.

ARIYA models with e-4ORCE, Nissan’s new electric all-wheel drive system, automatically block ambient sounds with Active Sound Control.

Zero Gravity seats minimize pressure spots on the body.

What’s more, it’s available climate controlled in the front seats, alongside heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel ensure everyone feels comfortable.

With minimal design key, haptic feedback controls set into the wood paneling awaken the senses minus visual clutter.

The dual 12.3 panoramic displays are there to keep you connected to both your vehicle and the world around you.

The aim is to make your drive smarter and getting there easier.

It includes an intelligent route planner, which calculates when a recharge is needed before signposting the driver to local charging stations as part of the journey route.

But with 465 km (289 m) of range you’ll have plenty of time to track one down.

Plugging the Platinum+ model in for 40 minutes takes you all the way up to 80% charge.

Hidden, wireless smartphone charging, an on-command dash tray for a laptop (on Platinum+ & Premiere models) and built-in Alexa means your sanctuary doubles as a workplace when you need it.

Meanwhile, from within this mobile sanctuary, an intelligent rear-view mirror on selected models also keeps you focused on what’s surrounding the car.

A suite of driver assist technology, including Nissan Safety Shield® 360, takes confidence to new heights.

Nissan ProPILOT Park offers peace of mind parking at the push of a button.

It works by controlling the steering, pedals, gear shift, and even the parking brake.

It also recognizes the type of parking space you’re aiming for and can even parallel park for you.
