Volvo 240 turned into campervan by someone putting a Saab on top of it

Do you ever feel like your old daily driver – let’s say a Volvo 240 – is great for road trips, but would be better if it had slightly more space, like a Saab-hybrid campervan?

Probably not, but someone else did — a man from Sweden, who had owned a Volvo 240 for 15 years, decided to convert his car into a campervan by putting half a Saab over it.

You read that right, the station wagon got an unusual ‘modification’ to become the world’s first 240 campervan dubbed ‘Volvaab.’

Amos Clapp, the owner of the 240, hailing from Portland, Oregon, created this recreational vehicle almost a decade ago.

And now, he is selling it so the camper can get a new home.

It might not be anything like this off-road luxury campervan, but it has its perks.

But how did Clapp get here?

The marketplace listing mentions that he absolutely loved his Volvo 240 in the early days, mostly because it was great for road trips.

Sleeping in the station wagon was relatively more comfortable than most other wagons from that time.

However, there was only one ick with taking the car out and sleeping in it — the headspace.

The roof was too low to have a good night’s sleep, and that problem pushed him to do something about it.

You probably know what he did next — he decided to cut out the upper part of a 1972 Saab and weld it on the 240’s roof.

And then, the Volvaab was born.

He calls it ‘The Almost Perfect Swedish Camper’ to honor the bizarre campervan creation.

While Clapp bought the Volvo 240 around 15 years ago, the Volvaab only came into existence 9 years ago.

Guess the low roof got the better of him.

Anyhow, the Volvaab is indeed a tempting purchase for motorhome enthusiasts, and someone already took it off his hands.

The 240 is an iconic car with a special place in the Swedish automaker’s history.

It’s one of Volvo’s highest-selling cars, and most people can quickly call it out from far away.

We’re not sure how easy it would be to spot one with a Saab roof attached to it, but it would still be quite recognizable.

It’s not the first time we have seen an old Volvo becoming relevant again after decades, like this 2001 model sitting on Volvo Island.

If you like vintage cars, especially ones you can take on road trips, the Volvaab would be the perfect fit.

The Saab part of this campervan has a matching interior, and it doesn’t look like a custom project at all.

Moreover, the photos in the listing will make you comfortable enough to sleep in it.
