A video of an Airbus A380 taking off steeply, almost like a rocket, went viral because people had no idea this was even possible.

Mind you, there’s a good reason why you’re never going to see that on a ‘normal’ flight.

It’s because the Airbus in question was empty.

A Malaysian Airlines Airbus A380 departed Farnborough Air Show with no passengers on board, just the pilots.

For that reason, the pilot decided to have some unscripted fun and take off like that.

The Airbus A380 is the largest passenger airliner and the only full-length double-deck jet airliner in the world.

It’s truly massive, measuring 73 meters in length and 24 meters in height.

On board, it has enough room for up to 853 people.

Boeing vs Airbus, who’s really winning?

When it comes to large airliners, it’s difficult to determine who’s winning.

The 747 is in a class of its own, with well over 1,500 built, 747 of which are still operational as of June 2024.

By contrast, the Airbus A380 didn’t really do as well in the market, but the A350 did.

So it’s probably neck and neck, for now.

But when it comes to smaller airplanes, the Boeing 737 vs Airbus A320 race is hotting up, and it seems Airbus is taking the upper hand.

Boeing delivered over 11,000 737s and Airbus delivered a similar number of A320s.

But, the difference is, that the 737 has been around since 1966, while the A320 was launched 20 years later, in the mid-1980s.

At this rate, it’s just a matter of time before the A320 starts ‘outselling’ the 737.
