Is the ‘Car Fighting Championship’ about to be the next big MMA craze?

You’ve all heard of UFC, the mixed martial arts Ultimate Fighting Championship, but have you heard of the Car Fighting Championship?

Well, it’s actually a thing, apparently.

Now honestly, we have no idea what’s going in this Car Fighting Championship thing, but we love it.

The idea behind it is relatively simple, in a way.

It is basically UFC but inside a car.

It makes very little sense and maybe that’s exactly the reason why it’s fascinating.

So how did it come about?

This crazy sport is somewhat popular in Russia, but it gained worldwide internet attention after a well-known UFC fighter posted about it.

Retired English mixed martial artist Danny Mitchell took to his Facebook account to share a video about the new ‘sport’.

The caption reads: “Car Fighting Championship, it’s a mad old world,” followed by the ‘face with tears of joy’ emoji.

The video was reposted from a Russian media outlet called Rutube, and there are a few things to say.

First, this appears to be a ‘proper’ sport.

It takes place in an arena with an umpire and a crowd of fans.

Secondly, even though the video is rather poorly cropped, there’s a watermark reading ‘Car Jitsu’.

So, as it turns out, calling it the Car Fighting Championship is actually a misnomer.

And anyway, Car Jitsu honestly sounds better.

So how does it work?

Well, two fighters seat in a stationary convertible car – one in the passenger seat and the other in the driver’s seat – with their seat belts done up.

When the bell rings, they then remove the seat belts and start fighting, and whoever taps out and/or falls out of the car first is the loser.

This begs the question: is it better to be sitting in the passenger seat or the driver’s seat?

In the driver’s seat you’ve got the steering wheel in front of you, and that feels like a double-edged sword.

So, is Car Jitsu going to be the next big MMA craze?
