A new futuristic city built by Japanese car maker Toyota called ‘Woven City’ is getting ready to open its doors to the public.
The city has also been described as a ‘living laboratory’ — designed to investigate how urban residents can live in tandem with autonomous vehicles, robots, clean energy, and artificial intelligence (AI).
If the vision of this futuristic city turns into reality, it will become one of the most advanced places to live.

Japan’s futuristic city to finish construction
Japan’s futuristic city hopes to be powered by clean energy, autonomous vehicles, robots, and AI.
These so-called smart cities are often hyped up by their PR department, but can hardly even get off the ground.
However, the Toyota Woven City is opening its doors quite soon.
The construction of the futuristic city started in early 2021 and it is set to finish by summer 2024.
Woven City website also confirms Phase 1 of the development will be complete by the end of the year and ‘demonstration trials’ will start in 2025.
Woven City or living laboratory
These ‘demonstration trials’ will include experiments involving next-generation remote communication technologies and smartphone apps linked to delivery robots.
The community will also have three types of streets that join together at ground level.
“One is dedicated to automated driving, one to pedestrians, and one to pedestrians using personal mobility vehicles,” the Woven City website states.
There will also be an underground road for goods transportation.
The $10 billion futuristic city will be a ‘mass human experiment’ to investigate the integration of technology into daily life.
Woven City also plans to use robots and sensor-based AI for everyday tasks like restocking the fridge and taking out the trash.
The futuristic city is also based in the shadow of Mount Fuji.
So, one can expect a breathtaking view of the iconic volcano.
