Spy shot reveals Bugatti Chiron successor prototype for first time

A spy shot of the Bugatti Chiron successor has surfaced online.

The picture, posted on the German Car Forum, was reportedly received from an insider at Rimac.

It’s the first spy image of the hotly-anticipated hypercar, although we’ve already been teased with details of it.

The Bugatti Chiron successor has already been confirmed to be getting a v16 hybrid engine.

Bugatti previously shared a short teaser video, revealing the carbon fiber plenum of the new powertrain.

Although technical details of the new powertrain are still under wraps, rumor has it the V16 engine has been developed by Cosworth.

Apparently, it’s an 8.3-liter, naturally aspirated lump that revs to 9,000 rpm.

What’s more, it’s rumored the internal combustion engine will be paired to three electric motors for a combined output of 1,800 horsepower.

The French atelier even went as far as to show off the sound of the new V16 engine its next hypercar will have.

The spy shot gives us a taster of what to expect of the Bugatti Chiron successor, albeit in prototype form.

You can clearly see the pre-production bodywork, with its design inspired by some of the more recent Bugatti hypercars.

For starters, the Chiron successor’s rear-end design reminds us of the Bugatti Mistral.

Then there’s the taillights, which clearly draw inspiration from the La Voiture Noire.

Moving away from its own models, the new hypercar looks to have an open rear fascia similar to that of the McLaren P1.

The Bugatti Chiron successor appears to have a double-bubble roof, too, with a spine running along the central axis.

At the back, there’s a retractable spoiler, while it’s worth noting the ducts positioned under the taillights and high-set exhausts.

As well as confirming its powertrain, the automaker also confirmed it will be revealed in June, possibly along with the Bugatti Chiron successor.

But while the curtain may be lifted on the new hypercar soon, we’ll have to wait a while longer for it to reach production.

Production isn’t set to begin until 2027, after the atelier has finished producing a few ‘regular’ Chiron Super Sport models, as well as the 60-unit production run of the Pur Sport.

Bugatti is also working on producing the swansong for the iconic W16 engine, which will take the form of a drop-top called the W16 Mistral.

Oh, not forgetting the Bolide track-only hypercar, that’s yet to be complete.

It’s fair to say the French automaker has lots of projects on its plate, so it can’t really be blamed for applying a bit of caution and not confirming a specific reveal date for the Chiron replacement.

But if we were to put money on it, you can be sure that the Chiron replacement will be sold out long before we even get to clap eyes on it.
