These watches are a lot more expensive than you’d think

There are several factors that contribute to the price of a watch but at the end of the day, it usually has a lot to do with demand.

Some timepieces are expensive because they’ve got a legacy brand name on the dial, but when it comes to certain timepieces, it’s hard to figure out why they cost so much.

Leica, a company that most people associate with cameras, made headlines when it launched two timepieces last year.

The L1 is a simple automatic watch and the L2 has a GMT function, allowing you to tell the time in two different time zones.

This being Leica’s first attempt at making watches, people were sort of expecting to cost three figures, maybe four, tops.

But no.

The L1 will set you back $10,000, while the L2 costs a whopping $14,000.

Louis Vuitton Tambour

Louis Vuitton is part of LVMH, one of the largest conglomerates in the world, run by the world’s second richest man.

They’ve got the cash to hire people with good ideas and see them through.

So when Louis Vuitton announced their intention to up the ante when it comes to their watches, people were excited.

And because LV isn’t exactly a watch brand, everyone assumed they would be expensive, yes, but attainable.

But that wasn’t the case.

The upgraded Tambour, the company’s flagship model, starts at around $20,000.

Ouch.

H Moser & Cie. Streamliner Perpetual Calendar

H Moser & Cie, most people simply call it ‘H Moser’, is an independent watch brand that’s been quickly rising through the ranks in recent years.

It has made some crazy stuff in the past, like the ‘invisible’ watch made from Vantablack.

The brand has a design language collectors appreciate.

H Moser timepieces are usually expensive watches.

This, for example, is the Streamliner Perpetual Calendar, a unique steel watch with a fumé dial and an automatic movement with a perpetual calendar that takes leap years and moon phases into account.

Yours for a cool $50,000.

Richard Mille RM 69

A controversial timepiece, the RM 69 falls under a unique category of watches, aptly known as ‘erotic watches’.

Yep, it’s a thing.

The Richard Mille RM 69 features three rollers on the dial that display random combinations of words, forming erotic phrases.

That is crazy, but what’s even crazier is the price: $696,000

Drake has one.

A. Lange & Söhne Grand Complication

A. Lange & Söhne, a respected German watch brand, makes one of the world’s most expensive watches.

They call it the Grand Complication, because it features a variety of complications.

In watch jargons, a complication is any feature of the watch aside from the time.

The watch has a prohibitive cost, with a sticker price of $2.6 million.
